Reading DOT Date Codes
Find a tire's manufacture date and answer the age question.
Where to look
The DOT code is on the sidewall, sometimes only on one side. The last four digits are the date code.
Decoding
Four digits mean week and year: 2324 is the 23rd week of 2024. Tires made before 2000 use three digits.
Age guidance
Many vehicle and tire makers recommend inspection after five years and replacement at six to ten years regardless of tread, depending on the brand.
Customer questions
A tire a few months old is normal and considered new. Showing the customer the code builds trust.
